Camera Recommendations?

Well, in a way this has to do with scolling, LOL. I'm in the market for a new camera, I've been using an old Sony Mavica for ions and it's time to upgrade. I'm thinking of purchasing the Pentax SLR (D1 or something like that). The reason I like this option is that it will accept all of my lenses from my days as a photographer (I have everything from Fisheye lenses - 1000mm Telephotos). It's 6.1mp. Unfortunately, I've only been able to find it online, so I haven't been able to touch one. Is anyone familiar with this one or is there something else I should be looking at? What I really want the capability to do is use remote flash set-ups, manually focus, and control the depth of field (I still have all of my commercial gear, so it would be a big plus).

I am no expert on high end cameras, I gave my SLR away when I got the digital. My biggest problem with my old SLR was no light meter,
If you get a model with interchangeable lenses I am sure you will be able to make all your familiar settings by hand. Even my little 200 dollar Sony will do that.

It is advantageous to have RAW output as well as the usual JPG format.
The usual jpeg format, while universal is a lossy compression format. Each time you modify and save a picture it will lose some clarity.
RAW data format is much more pure and enlargements will be crisper and more professional.

I own an easyshare Z7590 zoom digital camer. It is an SLR and 5 mp. And real easy to use. Check it out. I really like mine.

Unfortunatly, the Easyshare doesn't take interchangable lenses.

Do you have the "K" style body, Kevin?

We just upgraded to a Fugi for our photo shoots (when we can't get our photog in with his state-of-the-art Cannon camera)...it's a great camera--and it's easy to use!

I think you are on the right track in getting a body to use your various lenses on. I recently bought a Canon 350D on which I use all my differing lenses from my earlier Canon Eos film cameras. I am still tempted to buy a small digital as a pocket carry around but for significant work you cannot beat the dedicated lens. Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the input. Yep Bob, I have several K-mount bodies, both Pentax and Ricoh in 35mm formats. That's what appeals to me about this particular model, it will accept the KA and KAF mounts.

Be careful with online purchase

Lot's of the lower prices you see online are for gray market cameras which don't carry US factory warranties. If you do decide to buy online, make sure just what warrranty comes with the camera - whether it is the manufacturer's or whether it is some third party (or vendor) warranty which might require you to send the camera back to heaven only know's where for service.
