  • "New" (to me) Magazine offer....

Got a junk mail ad that caught my eye before being tossed it in the fireplace. Have any of you seen/subscribe to "The Crafts Report". Looks like it may have some good info for folks in the business of selling, but it is their ad i'm reading.......

    Thanks!

Bob - if this is inappropriate, please yank.

Fine by me--if you were promoting another scrolling magazine--it would be an altogether different story <grin>

Crafts Report is an outstanding publication. Really nothing to do with any one particular craft but all to do with the business side, more of a trade magazine. I subscribe and while there are articles with no interest to me there are always at least a few worth reading. They include tips on marketing, customer service, booth layout, trends as well as having listings of many of the better shows and exhibitions around the country. I think it's the best Crafter magazine available.
In my mind though, a totally different genre than SSW.

The Crafts Report is very much like the Sunshine Artist's magazine. They both cater to the arts and crafts crowds in general--pottery, carving, painting, sculpture, scrolling, ect.--and lean toward the business end of the field. They do not compete with SSW in any way. There is a lot of good advice in them if you go to a lot of shows (or are interested in getting started) or need business advice like how to account for your costs, setting up your displays, schedules and critiques for prominent shows in the US, etc. They can both get very boring very quickly (to me) sometimes, but usually have a couple interesting articles on the artists and their work.

So many are selling them here it’s not worth us making them. However, we do very well with our dough boards. Nobody else makes them. We have an order for a dough board and matching pepper grinder. The walnut board I could make into a beautiful basket or two and sell for lots more than they are getting...

I use #7 on my younger kid puzzles. Easier for them to put together.

I did forget to mention he cut a finger on his left hand with the bandsaw. Just took skin off. Lucky again. Told him he was calling 911 next time.

Jim, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, on the left you’ll find some style options that change the font size and color. I’ve been using Defalt vB5 Style, and it seems to be about the best for my iPad, but I’m still experimenting with my iMac.
