  • Giving stuff away/selling stuff

Searchd thru the site and rules and couldn't find an answer so thought I'd post here.......

Is it okay to offer wood to other members of this site???

As long as you don't make a big deal out of it...I'm ok with it. You contribute a lot--I really don't mind as long as that's not the only reason you're on the board.

Something like "I've got 15 board feet of maple for sale or trade...private message me for details...

If it becomes too regular, I might need to step in <grin>

      Thanks Bob

Appreciate the quick reply. The last thing I am interested in is making money off folks here! Just wanting to share some good deals I recently took advantage of........

          Giving stuff away

I belong to a "freecycle" internet group in the midwest (I believe there are groups across the country.) where people can give away stuff they would normally throw away as well as make requests for items. The idea is to keep perfectly good things from ending up in the dump. It is very successful.

What does anyone think about having a version of "freecycle" for scrollers on this message board? I don't know if this is a good idea or not for such a narrow range of interest, but it might be worth a try.

Im not sure about a freecycle type thing, but a free classifieds section, like on wood magazine message board might be nice.I would imagine no post would get viciously yanked out of here by Bob D. (ohh yeah,he looks so vicious doesnt he?????????????)))) if anyone posted somthing like .."ive got 5 pieces of 1/4 inch red oak six inches wide and blah blah blah,to give away to somebody if they want it" type of question.I would think that would be a welcome posting, but... if someone would say "I'm selling lumber, 1/4 by six inches wide ,blah blah blah, email me at my online business,"or whatever, like that, you know,a commersial on here.I would think that should be an unwelcome posting. Thats my thoughts on it,. Dale

I wouldn't be offended to see something like "I've got x amount of y wood to share for an attractive price. Private message or e-mail me for details"
As a matter of fact, I would probably be one of the folks getting hold of the lucky sharer.
I guess we could make it a special thread, and those easily offended by such stuff wouldn't need to be bothered.
              Just some random thoughts.

I wonder if their effort to offer better quality products may have something to do with it. Seems like they want to market themselves as something more than just a cheap tool supplier. Maybe reducing the number of things eligible for the big discount coupons is part of a campaign to change their image....

                by Bill Wilson
I've owned both tilting table and tilting head saws. My current saw is an EX-21 (pre-Chinese made version) with the tilting head. I have to say that for beveled cuts, I much prefer the EX over my previous tilting table saws (Craftsman and Dewalt). I think a lot of it is the rack & pinion angle...

Just a random annoyance . . . . Anyone get frustrated by the Harbor Freight ads that say no exclusions, then you see the details and see "for items under $20", or worse yet, in super small print, "Can not be used for: Atlas, Bauer, Central Machinery, CoverPro, Hercules, Predator, compressors,...

High ceilings make a house look super elegant. You have the option of doing some cool interior doors that are not possible with 8 foot ceilings. A lot of the large very old houses in my area have those....

And no annoying dust collection holes, for little pieces to catch on, right?

Since tilt arm style saws are my personal favorite . . . I can criticize it right? I hate the freaking dust collection mechanism on my King, and prefer the table on the older Green EX that didn't have that....
